Another attempt at a James Miller critter, this time from the current Woodcarving Illustrated magazine! Still a work in progress as I would like to get the legs a bit thinner.
I still struggle with getting clean cuts when a slight concave shape running with the wood grain is needed, such as with this sheep’s legs.
Always end up with a bit of fringe at the midpoint were the blades angle with the grain changes. The only way I have any success is with a 2 cut approach, curving cut down to midpoint, then a curving cut up to meet. The meeting point is the source of the “fringe” as I am unable to get an exact meet up of the 2 cuts.
